Pubs in Rotherhithe

Rotherhithe is famous for its docks, engineering and shipbuilders, and many of the world’s first steamships were built here. The world’s first iron ship was built in Rotherhithe. Rotherhithe docks were home to timber and whaling fleets and were once the largest commercial docks in the World. Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s first project, the Thames Tunnel – the World’s first underwater tunnel - is one of the greatest feats of engineering and is still is use by the London Underground – the oldest section of Underground railway in the World.

Despite its history, it is the departure of The Mayflower and its role in the founding of the United States of America that Rotherhithe is most famous. There are many pubs in the area that have a story to tell and historic link to be proud of.
